Veneers

If you are unhappy with the colour, length, shape or size of your teeth, you may have thought about getting veneers.

Veneers are very thin layers of porcelain or composite material that are placed on top of problem teeth to improve their appearance. To make room for the veneers before they are applied, enamel is removed from the host teeth.  This stripping of enamel is irreversible. The amount of enamel that needs to be taken can be reduced by straightening the teeth first using either fixed braces or more aesthetically pleasing methods such as Invisalign invisible dental braces. If you are considering veneers, it may be worth thinking about having your teeth straightened prior to getting veneers to try and reduce the amount of enamel that needs to be removed.

Veneers are not permanent and may need to be replaced due to wear and tear and chipping. Typically, veneers will need to be replaced every 10 years, although as newer and better adhesives arrive on the market, the lifespan of veneers is extending. Replacements are expensive, so if you are thinking of getting veneers, remember to factor in this extra cost.
